What is Science?
Science is a multi-disciplined academic field for students with the following subject combinations in class 12th – PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), and PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology). Students looking forward to a career in Science have a wide range of options at both UG (undergraduate) and PG (postgraduate) levels. Students can choose to pursue courses such as BSc (Bachelor of Science), MSc (Master of Science) and PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in a variety of Science branches/ specialisations such asPhysics | Chemistry |
Mathematics | Biology |
Computer Science | Nursing |

Science Eligibility & Entrance Exams
As indicated above, Science courses can be pursued at all – UG, PG and PhD levels. The eligibility criteria differs as per the course and branch chosen by a candidate. However, given below is a broad eligibility criteria for UG and PG Science courses for the reference of candidates: UG level: Candidates should clear class 12th with PCM, PCB or PCMB subject combinations and at least 50% - 60% aggregate marks. PG level: Candidates should clear graduation preferably in the subject in which they wish to pursue their master’s with at least 50% - 60% aggregate marks. Top Science Exams Most of the colleges and universities across India offer admission to candidates in BSc courses on the basis of merit. The merit list is prepared by authorities on the basis of candidates’ marks in class 12th exams. Science entrance exams are mostly conducted for admission in MSc and PhD courses. However, few higher education institutions also conduct entrance exams for BSc admissions. Given below are some of the top Science exams for the reference of candidates:Top Science Entrance Exams

Science Courses
Candidates can pursue degree, diploma, certificate, integrated, and vocational Science courses at UG, PG, and PhD levels. Candidates can pursue these courses as full-time, part-time, distance/ correspondence, and online programmes. Degree Science courses: Candidates can obtain a BSc, BSc (Honours) or MSc degree at UG and PG levels. Diploma Science courses: Diploma courses are typically one year duration Science programmes that can be pursued at both UG and PG levels. Certificate Science courses: Certificate courses are basically short-term courses of typically four to six months duration. Such courses can be pursued as both full-time and part-time programmes.Science Branches

Science Careers, Jobs & Companies
There are a wide variety of career prospects for students in both Science and non-Science areas. Job/ career prospects in the field of Science, however, depend on the course and specialisation of a candidate. For instance, a student with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Physics can build his/her career in the fields of space & astronomy, healthcare, meteorology & geophysics, and so on. On the other hand, a student with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemistry can choose to become a chemical engineer, analytical chemist, forensic scientist, nanotechnologist, biotechnologist, etc. Read: Careers in Physics: Courses & Specialisations Nonetheless, given below are few popular job profiles that candidates can consider taking up after completing the education in their preferred branch of Science:Popular Science Careers/ Job Profiles
